Craig Malone, a beef and sheep farmer from Fife, and one of Barenbrug’s Scottish Grass into Gold participants, said: “By taking part in the Barenbrug scheme I hope to boost the profitability of my business, learn how to get my stock to perform better on grass and cut down on the use of fertilisers. At the moment all of our grassland – some 200 acres across 14 fields – is young, less than two years old, and we’ve got a rotational grazing system in place. In terms of specific goals, we want to make more silage. I’m also interested in finding better ways to control weeds and what the benefit of adding clover to my existing leys might be. I look forward to working with Mhairi and the teams at Barenbrug and Dow over the next twelve months to learn new grassland management techniques and assess the impact on our farm’s bottom line.”
