2019 Agriculture May/June Event Round-Up

A round-up of two of the agricultural events we attended in the UK in 2019…

2019 Agriculture May/June Event Round-Up

As one of the largest grass seed producers in the UK, we believe it’s important to attend and have a presence at agricultural events across the country, since it’s a major sector we work in.

There is a plethora of events for those in agriculture to attend at this time of year. We recently attended the Scottish Beef and the Highland Sheep Events. Below you’ll find our round-up from each event, including why we thought the events were successful and well worth attending.

Scottish Beef Event 2019

This event, organised by the Scottish Beef Association (SBA), was held at North Bethelnie, Oldmeldrum, Inverurie - another very impressive farm for the 2019 show. It was great to see the event supported by such a large number of local and national organisations. There were plenty of visitors in attendance from around the UK who were keen to discover new brands, ignite new partnerships and learn from the many leaders in the industry.

As explained by Mhairi Dawson at Barenbrug, “Producing beef from home grown forages (and other crops) is integral to a profitable enterprise and the advances in technologies and information available to farmers was easy to see as you walked around the show.”

“It’s so important for livestock producers and grassland farmers to keep attending and supporting events such as these because there is so much to learn. I always say, if you can take one piece of advice home to adapt to and implement on your own farm, then the day has been worthwhile.”

“I found the Barenbrug sward sticks and Good Grass Guides were the most popular tools taken from our stands which is hugely encouraging. We will definitely be supporting the next event.”

Highland Sheep Event 2019

The Highland Sheep Event is one of Scotland’s major annual farming events. This year the event was hosted by the Sutherland family on the well-known sheep and beef farm of Sibmister, Murkle, Thurso.

This one-day event is organised by the NSA Scotland, with leading animal feed and health product suppliers, Harbro and their distributor in the north, W and A Geddes of Wick, as the main sponsors.

Mhairi Dawson at Barenbrug attended the event and said, “Huge credit must go to the Sutherland family and the organising committee of Highland Sheep 2019, which brought a huge number of visitors far and wide to Caithness’s northern shore.”

“There was a great atmosphere and a big crowd despite the cold weather. For me, it is becoming more and more apparent that livestock farmers are starting to look at grass as a crop and manage it as such.

Further to this, Highland Sheep was an excellent chance to catch up with numerous farmers using Barforage products as well as give all round grassland advice to anyone looking to make changes and improve productivity from their forage. I even got the chance to speak to one of the school groups being taken around the farm by RHET, maybe one of them will be enthused enough to look at career options in grassland in years to come. I’m already looking forward to Scotsheep 2020…it has a lot to live up to though!”
