Initially, Barwave was trialled in Barenbrug trial sites in Loughgall, Northern Ireland; Clonakilty, Southern Ireland and in Worcestershire, England before being selected for submission to the official recommended list systems. Some NZ material may not tolerate the UK climate but we know Barwave can!
Bred in New Zealand, Barwave also has some European parentage and is an excellent example of the benefits of being part of a global grass breeding organisation. We have been able to combine the long growing season of the NZ genetics with the winter hardiness of European genetics to create a variety suitable for a wider range of climates. It is particularly strong under silage management with high yields of dry matter and ME.
