Amenity Business Manager
Technical Sales - Scotland

Having joined Barenbrug in May 2008 as regional sales manager for Scotland, northeast England and Cumbria, David, is already a familiar face to many customers and is relied upon for his strong technical expertise.

Boasting a Master's degree in Environmental Biology from St Andrews University in Scotland and a PhD in Plant Genetics from Edinburgh University, David is well equipped to offer technical assistance to a broad range of clients.

Being a scientist by training, David holds the opinion that a scientific approach should form the basis to almost everything we do in the sports turf industry. His strong academic background is also reinforced by recently gained experience in greenkeeping. David originally hails from the north east of England, but has been living in Edinburgh for the last 13 years. An avid golfer with a handicap of 1, he also has a passion for all sports.

Key Accounts Manager
Technical Sales - North West & North Wales

Matt has been helping customers in a variety of sectors since he joined Barenbrug in 2008.

In addition to his regional role, covering the North West, Matt has overall responsibility for both sports and landscape contractors and the turf market, in addition to looking after distributors in his region.

An experienced greenkeeper, Matt has worked at a variety of clubs across the country, including a spell as deputy head greenkeeper of the 18-hole Wrexham Golf Club in his hometown of Wrexham. His wide-ranging greenkeeping experience includes the prestigious Open Championship course at Turnberry in Scotland to pay and play courses. He has an HND in Horticulture specialising in Golf Course Management from Reaseheath College in Cheshire.

An accomplished clay pigeon shot and ardent Liverpool FC fan, Matthew has an interest in all sports.

Technical Sales Manager - South West & South Wales

Sam joined Barenbrug at the beginning of 2015 and is responsible for the entire south west region, covering South Wales, and as far west as Brighton.

Sam has an impressive pedigree in the industry. After studying at Hartpury College, Sam has worked at premiership rugby at Gloucestershire RFU, before a sideways move into golf at both Tewkesbury Park and Gloucester Golf Club.  It was around this point that he became particularly interested in the technical side of turf management, his experience with Barenbrug’s R&D team inspiring him to consider a change of direction.

After a hard day’s trouble shooting and meetings, Sam likes nothing more than watching his favourite sports, from golf to jump racing or enjoying some  clay pigeon shooting.  Sam is a particular fan of rugby, and as an ex-player and avid watcher, he’s always up for a chat about the sports latest developments.

Research and Technical Sales Manager
Technical Sales - North of England & Ireland

Phil joined Barenbrug in May 2016, having started his career as an apprentice greenkeeper at his local golf club. From here Phil went on to work at St Andrews and Wentworth; being on the team for the Open and BMW PGA Championships. After 10 years of practical experience, he furthered his education with a degree in Turfgrass Science and Management and is a member of the BASIS professional register.

Before joining Barenbrug, Phil was a Research Manager at the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) conducting trials for commercial and private companies looking at the newest and most exciting technologies in the turfgrass industry.

Outside of work he is a keen golfer and runner. When not playing sport he can usually be spotted walking up some sort of a hill in the Lake District.
